Understanding Client Behaviours and Supporting Participants Effectively

Behavioural Impacts and Provider Responsibilities
Disabilities can sometimes manifest in behaviours that require special attention. It’s important to recognise that these behaviours are not deliberate but are often a part of their condition. Providers need to be aware that such behaviours can affect funding allocations and service delivery. When a participant's plan may not be adequately funded, it becomes crucial for providers to collaborate with Support Coordinators or Intermediaries to advocate for necessary changes. Working within the budget and ensuring resources are allocated wisely will help prevent early exhaustion of funds and support ongoing care.
Working as a Team: Collaboration is Key
A successful outcome for participants hinges on teamwork. Providers should work closely with participants' Representatives, Support Coordinators, and Plan Managers to ensure services are delivered effectively and efficiently. Open communication and collaboration can help avoid unnecessary expenditure and ensure that participants receive the support they need without compromising their budget. It’s all about making sure the participant gets the best possible care with the resources available.
Liaising for Better Support
One significant point to consider is that some disabilities can cause a participant to feel anxious or demand extra services. As a provider, if you’re aware that a participant has a Support Coordinator, please liaise with them to verify whether the additional services requested are reasonable and necessary before going ahead. This collaboration not only supports the participant better but also helps manage their plan budget effectively and responsibly.
